It’s back-to-school season again! This is the time when students and teachers are heading into a new academic year filled with anticipation. But we also know that teachers, students, and parents face more challenges than ever. A gift of flowers can help ease everyone back into their school routines and show appreciation to teachers for all that they do. To that end, we’re providing a few ways you can promote back-to-school flowers in your shop.
1. Focus on Flowers for Teachers
With all they have had to deal with over the past few years, nobody deserves flowers more than teachers! Use your website and social media pages to promote flowers for teachers, communicating how important it is to honor teachers right now. Another idea is to promote teacher appreciation flowers for homecoming at your local high schools.
And did you know that October 5th is World Teachers Day? More than 100 countries hold events to celebrate teachers on this day, and many schools host special assemblies or breakfasts to show appreciation for their teachers. So, find out if your local schools are celebrating World Teachers Day, and partner with them to promote special floral arrangements or bouquets that kids can give to their teachers on that day.
2. Create a Photo Op “Must Do” Outside Your Shop
Parents love to take photos of their kids, particularly when they’re starting a new school year! So, tap into this by creating a back-to-school photo op outside your store that’s too cute to resist. You can get many ideas on Pinterest or other social media platforms.
And you don’t always have to say “back to school” on your signage. You can say things like “My Favorite Student” or “School Days 2022”. Provide props, if you like, and include handheld signs for each school in your area to make it more personal. And when a proud parent takes a photo to share on social media, offer them an incentive (a flower or a discount on an arrangement) to tag you on their post.
3. Promote Desk-sized Arrangements
Plants and flowers are the perfect gift for teachers, students, and parents. After all, flowers can improve mood, calm stress, and enhance creativity. So, this is your chance to promote the power of flowers to a whole new generation.
And to make having plants and flowers a “no-brainer” for students and teachers, create a series of arrangements that would fit on a desk. Then promote them on your website and social media. You may also want to create a section for these desk-sized products in your shop and promote them as a fabulous school-year stress-busting idea!
4. Go Greek (AKA Sorority)
Don’t forget the college kids when thinking about back-to-school flowers! If you’re in a college town (or close to one), market your flowers to sororities. Find out which sorority chapters are active in your school and create arrangements in their colors. Then promote your arrangements on social media, particularly Instagram.
And if you stock up on sorority-themed add-ons, such as t-shirts, decals, jewelry, mugs, and totes, you can create gift bundles for each sorority. The more you promote these bundles to your list, the more you can increase your sales (and profits!).
5. Design College Care Packages
Even if you don’t have a college near you, you still have plenty of parents whose kids are heading off to college this year. This can be an emotional time for both the parents and the students, and many parents ease the homesickness by sending off regular care packages.
You can get in on this by creating packages that will make people think of home. For example, one Orlando florist created a package with a snake plant, tropical-themed stationery, and personal care items with a citrus theme. You can do the same thing in your store by creating a package that evokes memories of your town or city.
We hope we’ve given you a few ideas for sharing flowers this busy season! It’s an excellent opportunity for you to connect with customers old and new. We can’t wait to see your great back-to-school marketing!
