Can you believe the 4th of July is almost here? We can’t either! Last year, nine out of ten Americans celebrated Independence Day, and the amount spent on this holiday averages around $80. While most of the spending will be on cookouts, almost 30% will be spent on patriotic items — like red, white, and blue flowers! So, we wanted to give you a few tips you can use right now to help your customers celebrate!
- Start Selling Now
People love to celebrate Independence Day, so tap into that by offering your patriotic arrangements now. And think of how to incorporate patriotic pride into your sales, like offering a promo code for tinted roses or bouquets. The key is to promote those offers everywhere, starting immediately, to capitalize on 4th of July fever. And since the holiday falls on a Monday this year, people will likely celebrate for a minimum of three full days. So, plan on extending your sales both before and after the weekend.
- Design Unique Patriotic Arrangements
To help you stand out from the crowd, try out some different and creative options for your flower arrangements. Of course, you’ll have the usual tinted roses and carnations available, but why not play around with height and volume to create some sculptural arrangements? You can use delphiniums, grasses, lilies, and stock (as just a few examples) to come up with some unique, eye-catching arrangements.
- Throw a 4th of July Party
Capitalize on the fact that people are out and about this year: throw an Independence Day party in your store! You can do this at any time during the holiday weekend, including the Monday of the holiday itself. And if other businesses in your area are planning on having events, you may want to join up with them and hold a block party, which can help increase the turnout for all of you.
- Create a Photo Op in Your Shop
Whether or not you’re having a party, set up your shop as “4th of July Central,” starting a week before the holiday weekend. And one way to bring in more customers is to create a floral backdrop in your store. This way, people can stand in front of the backdrop, take photos, and share them on social media. Promote this patriotic photo op on your social media feeds to create a buzz: You may be amazed at how many people will come in to take a selfie
- Provide Discounts for Festive Clothing
Customers are always looking for discounts, so cater to them by offering someone a discount on an arrangement if they come into your shop wearing patriotic clothing. You can even offer this on social media by asking followers to take a photo in their best 4th of July attire, then sending them a coupon for a percentage off their next arrangement.
- Offer Military Discounts
If you don’t already offer a military discount, this is the perfect time to do it. Promote your discount in-store and on your website and mention it on all your social media feeds. And if you already offer a military discount, this would be a great time to provide an additional discount just for the 4th of July, to honor all who serve and have served.
- Run a Red, White, and Blue Email Campaign
Once you have your arrangements designed and offers in place, promote them widely through email. Set up a series of emails to start going out now and at least once a week up until the 4th of July weekend. And since so many other retailers will be promoting their Independence Day sales, you may want to send more emails than usual. Get creative on your email subject lines and be clear about what discounts you’re offering: This will increase the chances of your email being opened.
- Create a Splash on social media
Blast your 4th of July sales and promotions all over social media! Create a promotional calendar for the weeks leading up to the holiday weekend, and plan to post something every day if possible. This may take a bit of work to set up, but the constant repetition will ensure people see your promotions and beautiful arrangements. This is also a great way to promote contests, events, and other activities you’ll be offering.
We hope these marketing tips give you a few more ideas on making this 4th of July the most successful one yet. And tag us when you share your holiday festivities on social media! #livrio #4thofJuly
