LivRio is pleased to present some of the latest news from breeder Danziger.
The flower industry is constantly looking for innovative products. To that end, breeders are continually bringing “old” and “untouched” crops into their labs to develop them further and allow each flower’s most beautiful features to emerge. This was the case with Danziger and their SCOOP™ Scabiosa.
The scabiosa, or “pincushion flower”, had been around for what seemed like forever. It was propagated from seeds, mainly in blue varieties with medium-sized flowers and a rather delicate stem. Danziger took the scabiosa into their labs and spent years of development on this flower. As a result, four years ago they introduced a vegetative series of scabiosa named SCOOP™. With larger heads, a vibrant and brightly-colored flower ranging from purple to pink, blackberry, and even bi-color, SCOOP™ revived the Scabiosa market.
The SCOOP™ Scabiosa is now highly desired by designers of all styles, and is seen in both supermarket bouquets and unique high-end arrangements. With the success of this flower, Danziger continued the momentum and has now launched a new, highly desired product in the SCOOP™ Collection: FOCAL SCOOP™.
The new series, grown by an exclusive group of top growers around the world, offers eight varieties in a multitude of colors. While the SCOOP™ series has an average head size of 1.5 inches and is used as semi-focal in bouquets and arrangements, the average FOCAL SCOOP™ variety has a 3.5-inch diameter head and a thicker stem which keeps the larger head from bending.
The FOCAL SCOOP™ was created to answer the market demand for a SCOOP™ that can stand as a focal, whether in a consumer bunch or on its own. Designers have been hoping for this type of scabiosa as well, for the many different and unique designs they can achieve with it.
The breeding of FOCAL SCOOP™ came about because of the vast knowledge of the genetic characteristics of the SCOOP™ series, combined with the most advanced breeding techniques. This enabled Danziger to develop a series of varieties that are a true breakthrough in flower Research & Development.
The FOCAL SCOOP™ is protect by a utility patent #PCT/IL2018/051025.
SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES
Sustainability and environmental awareness are part of our guidelines in both breeding programs and production.
As the “green” trend is here to stay, as breeders Danziger identified the need for more varieties that contains features that will be easier on the environment. From shorter time of lighting required, thus less energy waste to no PGR use, we screened our assortment and marked the ones who have the added value, that are better because they need less interventions to grow well. We call it Better4less for that reason.
Certain chrysanthemum varieties, such as the leading ATLANTIS® series a need no B9 and less lighting, making it fitting the “better4less™” trademark.
We would like to hear your opinion on the selected varieties provided by Danziger. Please send us an email to marketing@equiflor.com and share your feedback!
