There’s a unique new rose variety coming to Rio Roses. Named after the inimitable floral industry leader Lynn Lary Mclean, the “Lynn rose” will be available from Rio farms starting in 2018. This one-of-a-kind flower features a pale-pink center surrounded by a cream color, created by a breeder in Germany and propagated in the Americas by Plantec. The unveiling of the rose was presented by Equiflor’s CEO Victor Giorgini in a special ceremony on July 21st at the Texas Floral Expo, an annual floral convention hosted by the Texas State Florist Association in San Marcos, TX.
Rio Roses chose to honor Lynn for her lifetime dedication to the floral industry, including a continued commitment to education and expansion of opportunities within the market. At the ceremony, Victor shared a few words about Lynn, who served as president of the Texas State Florists’ Association and founding member of the Texas Floral Endowment: “Lynn is not only the driving force behind the success of the Texas State Florists’ Association, but is admired for her many accomplishments and loved by many in the floral industry in Texas and across the country.”
Lynn was overwhelmed with joy upon learning of the honor. She personally thanked Victor and Rio Roses for “selecting this timeless blossom which I know will bring joy to many for many years to come. You all stand beside me in acceptance of this recognition. You each contribute to the success we have experienced in Texas.”
Rio was well-represented at the Texas Floral Expo by both Senior Vice President Raul Marrero and Marketing Manager Maya Sagastume. The company hosted its own table at the convention’s Product Gallery, featuring an elegant display of Rio’s best rose and flower varieties.
Overall, the Texas Floral Expo was a success for Rio Roses and a wonderful opportunity for connection and education with the floral community spread across the country. The Lynn rose will be available for purchase by the second half of 2018.
