Equiflor is excited to introduce our third breeder: Deliflor
History:
Deliflor is the largest chrysanthemum breeder worldwide, developing chrysanthemums in new forms and colors with optimum durability and good cultivation characteristics. Deliflor has its own cuttings production sites in Ethiopia and Uganda, where it cultivates reliable cuttings in accordance with strict quality criteria. The well-known varieties (Anastasia, Zembla) are actively promoted in collaboration with the trade.
Deliflor is part of the Beekenkamp Group, a family business since 1951, who now has over 2,600 employees worldwide and produces over 2 billion young plants every year, with a total greenhouse area of 90 hectares. The Beekenkamp Group combines the forces of three businesses.
The Deliflor assortment consists of spray chrysanthemums, disbudded chrysanthemums and Santinis and includes more than 300 different cultivars. The company produces cuttings and issues licenses for cut flower production.
Breeding:
Deliflor’s passion for perfection and the worldwide experience
in breeding chrysanthemums for their production properties and market potential result in surprisingly delightful shapes and colours. Various growing conditions require them to include varieties with different properties in the extensive range of disbudded chrysanthemums, spray chrysanthemums and Santinis. New varieties are developed with these factors in mind.
Testing Phase:
Deliflor continuously tests potential varieties in flower trials at the most important production regions for chrysanthemums. In addition to testing for cultivation properties, Deliflor also selects for varieties that respond to the various consumer preferences and for cultivars that
are improvements on existing varieties. These trials are conducted at Deliflor’s own facilities in Colombia, Japan and the Netherlands.
Laboratory:
In 2013, their staff in the Netherlands moved into a laboratory fully provided with the latest equipment allowing them to apply the newest technologies in tissue culture, physiological testing and other relevant research.
