P.R.E.P. (PLAN, REVIEW, EXECUTE, PROFIT)
With the onset of Spring comes a holiday that has been adopted by American culture as a March favorite: St. Patrick’s Day. At first thought, it may not seem like a very important floral holiday; but it’s important to think outside the box when it comes to possible revenue during that lull between Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day. Get lucky this St. Patrick’s Day using the power of social media to paint the town green!
The Emerald Isle:
In a nod to Ireland, St. Patrick’s Day is associated with the colors green, orange, and gold, providing plenty of opportunities for creative arrangements and marketing elements. Decorate your store with the color green, rainbows, and pots of gold to get customers into the St. Patrick’s Day spirit. And don’t forget to reflect these changes on your social media handles—perhaps uploading a new cover photo to Facebook or posting arrangements in green, gold, and orange to Instagram.
Don’t Get Pinched:
An old tradition is to wear green on St. Patrick’s Day to avoid “getting pinched by a leprechaun”. Post a fun, friendly reminder on Twitter or Facebook and offer a “lucky discount” ($1 or 10% off) to any in-store customers who wear green that day!
A Round of Trivia:
There are many fun facts and interesting historical tidbits associated with St. Patrick’s Day. Engage your
customers with fun trivia questions via email or on Instagram—the first correct replies get entered into
a special St. Patrick’s Day raffle for a coupon or a discount!
Buy a Pint:
Team up with local restaurants or pubs celebrating St. Patrick’s Day and offer 10% off to clients, allowing the establishment to do the same for your floral shop. This is a great way to cross-advertise and get clients from a different market. Make sure to announce this partnership on social media—maybe with a picture of a traditional Guinness pint!
Your Luck:
Host a social media contest via Facebook or Instagram. Ask customers and followers to post their best St. Patrick’s Day photos and create a hashtag for the contest that they must use. Choose a favorite, or
enter all participants into a raffle with first and second prizes. Extra points for any four-leaf clovers!
A Pinterest Pot of Gold:
Fill a Pinterest Board with St. Patrick’s Day images and media relating to the floral industry. For example, giving customers ideas of how to use arrangements for a St. Patrick’s Day celebration might inspire them to come pay your shop a visit.
